"The products we are talking about have some characteristics in common: 

- they are produced and processed on a specific farm up to the point where they are ready for marketing (e.g. fresh fruit, bread, sausage, cheese)

- they are owned by and under the responsibility of the owner of this farm throughout the production and processing; 

- they are sold through short supply chains; this means that a maximum of one intermediary seller exists between the farmer and the final consumer."
